A Helping Paw

Last summer we decided to help give something back. This resulted in the beginning of A Helping Paw. We take in a couple of dogs at a time, who for various reasons find themselves homeless, spend time with them and allow them to settle before assessing and rehoming them. How long the dogs are with us depends entirely on each individual dog. Some take longer to settle, some have issues that need worked on first. Once we feel they are ready we start taking applications for them. Anyone we feel might be a suitable home for them must come for numerous meets, receive a home check, complete a rehoming contract and pay a rehoming fee of £290. If you are seriously interested in rehoming any of our dogs please get in touch.

Lexi is a 3 year old female border collie.

She came to us as her previous owner had a change in circumstances and could no longer look after her. Although well trained she hadn't had a lot of socialisation with people or dogs so she was quite upset with the change and wary of the new people.

She's been with us 2 months now and has completely grown in confidence. She's now walking happily with all the staff here and is a lot friendlier with people and dogs.

She's one of the most chilled out collies I've ever met and although enjoys her walks she's equally happy to chill out inbetween times.

She walks well on lead and has good recall. She travels well and was very good at the vets.

We are looking for a home for Lexi where she will be an only dog as she does prefer to have all the attention to herself! No cats. Once she builds a relationship with you she will make someone an incredibly loyal and obedient pet.

Tammy is a 2 year old female collie who came to us as a failed working sheepdog. She has only been with us a couple of weeks but has proved super friendly with everyone and great with all the other dogs. She very much just wants affection and will do anything to please you. She does jump up a lot for cuddles but that is really her only flaw! She walks well on the lead, has brilliant recall, travels well and was very well behaved at the vets. She hasn't seen a lot of small children so does bark at them as she's obviously quite wary and although this is improving we are looking for a home for Tammy with no children under 12. She will happily live with another dog but no cats. She has actually spent all her life with her sister but her sister is very hard on her and tells her off a lot if she doesn't get all the attention. We feel this will be even worse in a home environment so have now split them up in order for them to be rehomed seperately. They are both coping very well and aren't fased with being apart. Tammy has never lived in a home environment but she's clean in the kennel and I don't think it will take her long to adjust.

She is very friendly and will need an active home with plenty of exercise. She's one of those dogs who will just put a smile on your face whenever you are with her.
